My name is Rachael Bregman and I am a Rabbinic student, a chaplain candidate and an officer (ensign, or affectionately, a butter bar) in the US Navy. Because wonderful people out there worked hard to make it happen, I am leaving for Japan tomorrow morning for 18 days. I will be serving as the Rabbinic presence at the Yokosuka Naval base for the Jewish High Holy Days. I think I am a pretty regular thirty-something (yeah, I know, friends and family are all scratching their heads at that one...but I do feel that way). What I mean is, I feel like a normal person about to do something extraordinary.
That's me off to the left at Chaplain School in Newport Rhode Island this summer...
This is my blog chronicling my adventures on this great journey.
